The Atik 4120EX is Atik's highest resolution camera!
"The camera performed faultlessly throughout the review period and we were reminded how convenient a colour camera can be under fickle UK skies. There is no doubt a monochrome camera, a filter wheel and a set of filters will give greater flexibility in deep-sky imaging, but these extras bump the price of a setup considerably. We would not hesitate to recommend the Atik 4120EX to beginners and DSLR imagers looking to upgrade their camera but not wishing to make the leap to monochrome imaging." Steve Richards writing for 'BBC Sky at Night' magazine Dec 2015.
The new Atik 4120EX uses the 12MP ICX834 CCD with EXview HAD CCD II technology so offers outstanding Quantum Efficiency, very low noise and excellent thermal management. This makes it a good choice for use with Fastar/Hyperstar systems and other fast, short focal length telescope.
The high resolution is very apparent when printing images out to A3 poster size and beyond and enables zooming into different parts of an image on a computer display to see extra detail. The Atik 4120EX is currently available only as a One Shot Colour (OSC) camera as in this format the small pixel size really has an advantage faithfully recording the colour of stars and nebulae.
OSC cameras also allows you to assess the colour from only a single image, something that would require filters and a filter wheel to accomplish with a monochrome camera. Adding a simple IR block filter or a light pollution filter is all you need to explore the wonders of the universe with the Atik 4120EX.
The Atik 4120EX works well with 1.25″ filters down to f/2 which reduces the overall cost compared to cameras requiring larger filters. The images produced from OSC cameras are also easier to process because you do not need to align the 3 or 4 separate images required for LRGB or RGB imaging.
Atik's highly-acclaimed Capture software is included for camera control and data acquisition and plug-ins are included to allow use with Astroart and Maxim DL.
A universal (110-230V) power adapter is optional.
