About this product

Model:  iop_cem25p_7100p
Part Number:  7100P

Ultra portable mount with a low periodic error of +/- 10 arc seconds!

The CEM25P has all of the features of the CEM25 and now has a guaranteed low periodic error of ~+/- 10 Arc seconds or less. The improved tracking accuracy is a product of tighter production tolerances. It also features larger gear switches on both axes, making access and adjustment easier especially with light gloves on.

The Center-balanced Equatorial Mount (CEM), a mount whisper quiet and light weight, uses up to 60% less GOTO power consumption than other mounts in category.

The "Z" design mount puts the weight of the payload at the center of gravity allowing for greater natural stability. Given its payload capacity, this means the "Z" designed mount is unusually light, a nice benefit when setting up at a remote site. Other features include an adjustable counterweight bar to prevent obstruction with the tripod. And polar aligning is quick and accessible all the time since the polar scope is not blocked by the declination shaft.

The CEM25P is equipped with the latest advanced GOTONOVA® GOTO technology, making it one of the most powerful and accurate GOTO mounts available. Its database includes over 150,000+ objects. The Go2Nova® Hand Controller is intuitive to use and its large 4-line LCD screen simplifies the process of setting telescopes and locating objects.

Solid and accurate.

I've only had a quick run with the mount so far but it seems very nicely put together with no noticeable play in either direction. The motors are surprisingly quiet especially compared to my skywatcher alt/az and object slewing accuracy is good. Didn't take long to level the set up and align. Next time I'm going to do a three star so expect even better accuracy. But I'm impressed so far. And think as a imaging mount with my short focal apo should be a great combination. And the Ikarus Imaging service and price is first rate.

CEM25-P initial review

Only had this mount a week or so and it's been continuously wet the whole time. So no use against the sky. However. It has given me the chance to hone the set-up indoors to make sure everything works properly. It's VERY quiet at all slew and nudge speeds. I've connected the mount to an old laptop (Win 7) and use CdC to move around the (imaginary) sky. I've put a William Optics ZS-73 on board, a Nikon DSLR (D5100) and a 9x 50mm finder guider with ASI120MM-S guide camera mounted giving me a quick pick-up and go set-up. It runs easily off a small 12 volt DC motor-cycle battery which I hang from the tripod spreader. I chose the lighter tripod option as I don't intend using the mount with a heavy OTA. That said the iOptron 6 inch RC would sit well on this mount and may be looked at in the future. I'm an imager only and rarely look through an eyepiece.
I'll update this review once I point it to clear sky.
